Now a few years old, South Park may not be the newest NetEnt slot on the market but it's still a firm favourite with players all over the world.
Audiences had very high hopes for this game when it was first announced and, from the opening cinematic intro that features poor Kenny being crushed a slot machine, you know you're in for an experience that's as close to the show as you could possibly hope.
South Park has a whopping seven mini-games and bonus features thrown into the mix so it offers a different experience every time you play and, with a huge jackpot worth over 1,000,000 coins, it's one you'll want to come back to time and time again.
South Park is an officially licensed slot based on the long running TV show of the same name. It's a pretty typical 5-reel 25 payline game but has a very large jackpot and offers four dedicated bonus rounds as well as a couple of extra mini features.
The game will obviously be hugely popular with fans of the show and its controversial brand of humour, but the large jackpot will probably see players who've never even seen the show eager to take the game for a spin as well.
South Park's format will feel very familiar to anyone who's ever played a video slot before – it has 5 reels and 25 paylines, which doesn't necessarily sound like a whole lot for a modern title, but the abundance of bonus rounds definitely makes up for the lack of ways to win.
The game's reel icons, sounds and animations look like they've stepped straight out of the show and, because this is an official slot, all of the voice actors etc. have contributed to its production. The only complaint we have is that, by the time you've landed a few wins, some of the sound effects and samples can start to get a bit repetitive. Fortunately, you can just mute them if they start to annoy you.
South Park (the TV show) is wildly popular and we're not surprised that a casino software producer brought out a licensed slot. We can only assume that NetEnt won the bidding war for the rights to do so! The slot has proven to be just as popular as the show, though, so it was definitely a wise investment.
Fans of the show are able to give the game a try at countless casinos on the web – there's little doubt that this is one of the jewels in NetEnt's crown and there are very few sites that offer NetEnt games but don't offer South Park.
Kyle and Kenny's bonus rounds award free spins with a multiplier and/or coin wins, Cartman's is a pick 'em style mini-game that awards coin wins and Stan's triggers free spins with sticky wilds.
It's difficult to say which of these will be your favorite without knowing how you like to play, the level of risk you like in a slot etc. but it's definitely possible to rack up some great wins playing any of them!
Other mini features include Terrance & Phillip, Mr Hankey and Beefcake Cartman distributing wilds all over the reels, and can result in some VERY nice wins. You may be glad to see that these are the actual bonus rounds if you get really lucky.
The game may have a lot of bonus rounds, but that doesn't mean that you'll necessarily see one every time you play. Know when to quit – if you bag a decent win during standard play, you might want to resist the temptation to keep slogging away until you trigger a bonus round because there's no guarantee it's even close to being just around the corner.
At 1,250,000 coins, South Park's jackpot is one of the largest non-progressive wins you'll find in any NetEnt slot or one made by any other producer for that matter. With a maximum coin size of 0.50, the same as that of sequel South Park: Reel Chaos, the game is not quite a millionaire maker, but this is still a jackpot that would have any player jumping for joy.
The good thing about South Park is that, even though it has that huge jackpot, it never feels as if you're solely chasing that big win; you'll probably enjoy plenty of wins during a typical session on South Park, though of course they won't always be worth much more than your initial bet.
Still, it's always nice to encounter a game that has a large jackpot but doesn't feel extremely volatile.
The childish, occasionally a little disgusting, content of South Park (both the slot and the TV show itself) will undoubtedly put some players off. But this slot isn't aimed at those people, and there are other games out there with jackpots on a similar level for those players to enjoy.
However, for slots fanatics who enjoy the show and/or like a bit of variety in their mini-games are certain to come back to South Park time and time again. True, that huge jackpot doesn't hurt matters either but there's enough going on here to keep players engaged even if they only hit a few mid-level wins during standard play.
This one comes highly recommended by us! Just try not to kill poor Kenny...
FYI: South Park does have a sequel, which has a smaller jackpot but a larger range of in-game bonus features. We've also reviewed that game on this site, but we have to say that we probably prefer the original.
